Marist180 Celebrates Resilience and Advocacy on Youth Homelessness Matters Day

On the national observance of Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD), Marist180 Homelessness Services Team hosted a memorable event that brought together community members, service providers, and the youth themselves to highlight the ongoing issues of youth homelessness. YHMD, which began in 1990, aims to raise awareness and foster public discussion about the challenges faced by children and young people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

This year's event saw a strong turnout, with both internal staff and external community members, as well as numerous young people, joining in the day's activities. The event was not only a celebration of young people's resilience but also a crucial platform for advocacy towards sustainable solutions to prevent homelessness.

Highlights of the day included heartfelt stories shared by two courageous young individuals who have experienced homelessness. Their narratives provided valuable insights into the personal impact of homelessness and the importance of supportive services. Attendees also enjoyed a community-building sausage sizzle and participated in a free raffle, which featured two beautifully assembled hampers.

Marist180 extends special thanks to the Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) team for their dedication and effort in organizing this successful event, and to all the brave young people who shared their journeys. The day underscored the critical need for continued support and innovative solutions to address the barriers that lead to youth homelessness.

As Marist180 continues to work towards breaking the cycle of homelessness, the stories and support shared on Youth Homelessness Matters Day serve as a poignant reminder of the community's role in fostering change and offering hope to young people in need.
